Sustainability and “green” development at the center of concerns. An event marked the beginning of the new vision of AVRA natural mineral water.
Zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2025. That’s the goal that Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon announced at an event on May 10 in Aegio, setting the tone for the new era.
The model plant breaks new ground with the strategic pursuit of climate neutrality and zero carbon dioxide emissions throughout its value chain by 2040.
Important accolades and new eco-friendly packaging
Every bottle cap is precious. And that, Aura Natural Mineral Water knows it well. So, from the end of the month, it comes in a new packaging with a non-removable lid, with eco-consciousness and additional ease of use.
Thus, Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon succeeded in implementing the European directive and the corresponding alignment of Greek legislation earlier, thus contributing to the fact that more than 250 million caps can be collected and recycled.
The AVRA Natural Mineral Water factory holds an important exclusivity in Greece. It is the only water bottling plant that Platimun has received an AWS distinction for the good management of water resources, while using electricity from 100% renewable sources and constantly reducing the consumption index relative. Since 2016, it has reduced the plastic it uses to manufacture its products by approximately 23%, while producing no waste since it recycles and uses it 100%.
Thanks to its sustainable practices, it ranks second in water and energy consumption indicators among all water treatment plants in the 29 countries where the Coca-Cola HBC Group operates.
Of course, sustainability and respect for the environment are always at the center of a corporate culture, which has been restructured over the years to keep up with developments. With the plant’s fleet of forklifts already 100% electric, the next focus is on zero direct emissions by increasing the use of renewable and clean energy sources to 100% from the current 91% , on the use of other means of heating water by replacing LPG. with electric heaters, minimizing indirect emissions from the wider supply chain, reducing emissions from primary and secondary packaging.
As part of the event to announce the goal of making the plant climate neutral, a symbolic tree planting was set up in the forecourt of the plant.
There, Maria Anargyrou-Nikolic, General Manager of Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon for Greece and Cyprus, said:
“The AVRA natural mineral water plant is a state-of-the-art unit, with a significant economic and social impact on the entire region. It is a model unit of innovation and sustainability. We are particularly proud to announce the factory’s goal of becoming climate neutral by 2025, while introducing the new, more sustainable packaging with a non-removable lid. This is a historic moment for our company and for our zero strategy. carbon dioxide emissions by 2040, with a vision of a better world for all.”
Also, Giorgos Chantoumakos, supply chain manager of Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon for Greece and Cyprus, said among other things:
“The AVRA natural mineral water plant is a standard environmental management unit. This demonstrates in practice our efforts to continually reduce our environmental footprint and have a sustainable and resilient supply chain. AVRA climate-neutral natural mineral water brings us closer to achieving our commitment to zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2040.”
The Aegio factory is one of the most important and modern industries in the region and strengthens the local community at key points, both economically and institutionally. The indicators are revealing: the growth of the economy, the constant creation of jobs, the cooperation with local suppliers of raw materials bring multiple benefits.
What is remarkable is that a total of 17 million euros will have been invested from 2017 to 2025 to modernize the plant, which has been operating since 1989 under strict control conditions and scrupulously respects all quality standards.
THE Coca-Cola Three Epsilon for 54 years, it has been an exemplary presence in the socio-economic system of the country. Looking to the future, the company structures its partnerships and its philosophy in a climate of sustainable development and inclusion. Without compromise or discount on quality, the company relies on undisputed quality and this in a holistic approach to all its activities. The sequel will also bring new initiatives to protect the planet, society and people.
